Digital textile printing

DTF (Direct-to-Film) and DTG (Direct-to-Garment) – Modern Textile Printing Methods

DTF – Direct-to-Film
A digital printing method that allows highly detailed, multicolor designs and photos to be printed first onto a special film and then transferred directly onto garments. No minimum order quantity, making it perfect for small, custom runs.

DTG – Direct-to-Garment
A modern printing technique where designs are printed directly onto the fabric with full color. The result is soft, durable, and environmentally friendly (Oeko-Tex 100 certified). Ideal for t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatshirts—even over seams and zippers!

Understanding CMYK Colors in DTF and DTG Printing

Both DTF and DTG use the CMYK color model (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) for printing. While CMYK offers a broad color range, it differs from the RGB color space used on screens:

  • CMYK colors are more limited: Bright neon colors and deep metallics may not reproduce accurately.

  • Color brightness and intensity are constrained by the four-color ink mixture, which can affect vibrancy.

In practice, this means color adjustment and optimization are essential, and it’s the designer’s responsibility to ensure the final colors meet expectations. We offer support and color guides to help you get the best possible result.

How DTF and DTG Affect Color Reproduction

  • DTF printing involves printing colors onto a film first, then transferring them to fabric, which can enhance color accuracy and durability.

  • DTG printing applies colors directly to the fabric, so results can vary depending on fabric type and texture.

Why Do RGB and CMYK Colors Differ?

RGB colors are based on light (red, green, blue) and can appear much brighter and wider in range than CMYK inks, which are based on ink mixing. Because of this, colors you see on a screen won’t always match printed results exactly.

Therefore, we recommend:

  • Doing a color proof or test print before large production runs.

  • Utilizing our support in color adjustment to ensure the final print matches your vision as closely as possible.

Summary

DTF and DTG printing offer high-quality, vibrant, and detailed textile prints with no minimum order size. CMYK colors form the basis of these techniques, but their limitations should be understood and considered during design. We’re here to help you achieve the best possible printed result!
